Weave your favorite movies into your elopement photography

NOTE —

If your blog post's featured images are fairly low resolution, you may want to delete the top image canvas. Your blog will still look gorgeous, but the top banner section looks best when you upload an image that's 2500px on the long side. You can also use our fave TinyJpeg to make them small so your blog posts still load quickly!

Engagement Sessions

A Dreamy Engagement Session at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC

April 10, 2025

Some love stories are worth the wait. Svitlana and Roy’s journey began over 12 years ago when they first fell in love. Life eventually took them in different directions, and they spent ten years apart. But as fate would have it, their paths crossed again—and this time, their love picked up right where it left off.

We met at the breathtaking National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC for their engagement session, and it couldn’t have been more fitting. The soft, natural light, elegant architecture, and peaceful ambiance perfectly echoed the timelessness of their story.

What makes the gallery truly unique is the variety it offers. The West Building exudes classic elegance with its marble staircases, sweeping arches, and soft, diffused light—perfect for couples who want a traditional and refined look. Meanwhile, the East Building provides a more modern aesthetic with clean lines, dramatic angles, and skylit spaces that create striking compositions. Whether you’re going for timeless romance or artistic modernity, the gallery has it all.

Pro Tips:

  • No Reservation Required. The Gallery is free and open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—no booking necessary!
  • Travel Light. Avoid carrying too much. Items like phones or wallets in your pockets can show up in photos and be tough to edit out later. I always recommend clients leave essentials like phones, keys, and small purses at the coat check, conveniently located at every entrance.
  • No Bouquets Allowed. Neither fresh nor artificial flowers are permitted inside the museum. I’ve even had fake florals turned away by security—so best to leave those out of your plan.
  • Carry Backpacks on One Shoulder. To protect the artwork, backpacks must be worn on one shoulder—not both.
  • Don’t Worry About Snacks. There are cafés located in each wing, so you can leave food and drinks behind.

Most of this enchanting engagement session unfolded in Gallery 12 on the ground floor—a space with a rich, moody ambiance that felt almost cinematic. The dim lighting, paired with elegant wall mirrors that subtly reflected the soft glow, created a dreamlike atmosphere—perfect for capturing intimate, soulful moments that feel as timeless as the art surrounding them.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the gallery offers a peaceful and quiet environment that allows couples to feel relaxed and truly present in the moment. Unlike busy parks or outdoor landmarks, the museum gives you space to slow down, soak in the beauty around you, and focus on each other.

If you’re dreaming of engagement photos in an art museum or planning an intimate elopement in Washington, DC, I’d be honored to help bring your vision to life.
